Correctional Nurses work out of the county correctional facilities, which include West Valley Detention Center, High Desert Detention Center, Central Detention Center, and Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center.

Correctional Nurses work in a secure environment alongside sworn Deputy Sheriff’s while attending to the healthcare of inmates.

Correctional Nurses work 8-12 hour shifts, which include day, night, swing, rotating, holidays, and weekends. A shift differential per hour is available for evening and night shifts.

At a correctional facility, the nursing staff works directly with inmates as opposed to the general public. The nursing staff is more hands-on with lab work and clinical duties than a hospital with different areas of responsibility.

Correctional Nurses receive 15 days of holiday pay annually, along with sick leave and Perfect Attendance Leave.

Yes, Correctional Nurses are part of SBCERA and can qualify for other retirement perks such as 457(b) and a Retirement Medical Trust Fund.

Correctional Nurses are assigned to one specific location. A request for official transfers to another facility can be submitted.
