Sheriff’s Communications Dispatcher

Sheriff’s Communications Dispatchers receive and evaluate incoming emergency (9-1-1) calls, routine calls for service, and enter calls into a Computer Aided Dispatch system. Our dispatchers are an integral part to ensuring public safety and have multiple opportunities for growth!

Positions are primarily located at the Valley Control Center in Rialto and the Desert Control Center in Hesperia. Each center serves as the primary 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for its respective geographic location.

Yes, there is a POST certified – Dispatch Academy, that consists of 6 months of training.

Yes, you will get your full pay while training.

We have 2 Communications Centers, one in Hesperia and the other in Rialto.

You must have at least a 35wpm typing speed.

You must be at least 18 years old and have a High School diploma or GED.

You will need to pass the Critical Dispatcher Test. You can find several websites online that provide practice tests.

The background process for dispatchers is thorough and similar to sworn positions, however you do not need to complete a Physical Agility Test or an Academy.

You will be contacted by an investigator and will need to complete Background forms with a notarized waiver. The process includes a Background Interview, Live scan, Polygraph Test, and a Psych and Medical evaluation.

Each background process is individual to the applicant, so it is based on your personal background. It’s crucial that you stay proactive, check your email regularly, ask questions, and promptly return the required paperwork and documentation.

This division is a 24 hour, 7 days a week facility with rotating shifts that consist of Day, Swing and Graveyard Shifts.
